Apna Haq support women and girls from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities who are living in Rotherham to escape violence, including domestic violence. Services offered include drop ins, support groups, domestic violence outreach, financial support, floating support and a training and development programme to support individuals to develop life skills and employment opportunities. Choir with No Name is a national charity that runs choirs involving people with experience of homelessness and is a weekly opportunity to make friends, sing with others and share a hot meal. The Sheffield choir started in January. We meet most Mondays (47 weeks a year) at Sheffield Cathedral at 6pm. Anyone 18+ who is or has had experience of homelessness is welcome and can just turn up on a Monday. We sing a varied range of pop music and love to perform!

SWA has been providing emergency accommodation for women and children who have suffered and survived domestic and sexual abuse and violence for over 45 years. Accommodating women aged 16+ and their children (of any age or gender) if they depend on their Mum for their personal well-being and can accommodate larger families. Services include:

• Refuge accommodation, 36 furnished self-contained apartments for both women and children. Communal lounges and gardens as well as play equipment for children. One complex can house pets.
• Activities in and around the refuge.
• Children and Young Persons Practitioners provide a wide variety of therapeutic play sessions for children of all ages at different times of day. This is on a one-one basis or in small groups. They can help:
  • Establish new routines for children
  • Access support around children’s development and behaviour through referrals
  • Find a new school for the children
  • Establish safe contact arrangements, support with court proceedings and advocate for you in safeguarding meetings.
• Dedicated keyworker who will work with the woman at their own pace to begin to work through their experiences and plan the support you would like to help you and your children move forward. Support provided:
  • Accessing welfare benefits/independent finances
  • Registering with new GP and Dental surgeries
  • Support to get to know local area
  • Accessing support physical and mental health needs
  • Being an advocate for you with other agencies
  • Supporting you to access housing
  • Preparing to move on
  • Accessing legal support
  • Support with immigration status issues
  • Other support needs identified.

Established in 2006, ShipShape Health and Wellbeing is an Anchor organisation delivering responsive & preventive services to tackle health and inequality amongst the most deprived communities across the neighbourhoods of Nether Edge, Abbeydale, Highfield, Sharrow, Broomhall, and City Centre. As well as being well connected with city wide partners, groups and communities, through projects and partnership working. Our services are delivered from the centre and out in the community through our outreach team. the centre is open from 9:30am - 4pm. our services are delivered in different community languages through our diverse team of staff.

• Thom's Blokes: A mid-week group for men of all ages, offering various activities.
• Knit and Natter: A crafting group open to various crafts, not just knitting, with provided materials.
• Thom's Golden Folks: A social group for people over 60, meeting twice a month for activities and meals. It's £3 per session and this includes tea/coffee and cake in the first Tuesday of the month from 1pm to 3pm. On the 3rd Thursday of the month 12.45pm-3pm, this includes a 2 course lunch with tea/coffee and biscuits, with time to chat and socialise. £8 per session. 

The church hosts daily, breakfast, soup & roll and after school clubs during the day with events most evenings. Other activities  include:

• Soup and Roll Club (first Friday of each month).
• Table Tennis social (Monday evenings at 7pm).
• Board Games Club (monthly).
• Afternoon Tea Services.
• Coffee Afternoons.
• Carols and readings.
• Church Walk.
• Christian Aid Night Hike.

The Broomhall Foodbank is open every Monday 10.30 – 12.00 (except bank holidays) and provides the following :

Sheffield S6 FoodBank: a food parcel and additional support around financial hardship resulting in the need for food.

The Furnival is a project focusing on creative community engagement in Burngreave and empowering over 600 women and children, especially new migrants, through language and life skills development. They run English classes at Verdon Recreation Centre, across the road from us, on Mondays and Fridays 10:00 am to 12.00 pm,  on Wednesdays they priortise wellbeing activities 10:00 am to 1.00 pm and cooking classes on Wednesday from 11:00 am to 1.00 pm.
