Parkgate Young People's Accommodation and Support Services (YPASS) help young people with a range of support needs to help them prepare for an independent tenancy in a nurturing environment where they feel safe and secure. This service works with a variety of complex and specialist groups of vulnerable people: such as those with substance misuse, mental illness, victims of abuse, and young people. In addition to helping people secure and maintain accommodation, YPASS also facilitate personal development; access to other services and opportunities; support and opportunity to find meaningful occupation, and overall to help people change their lives for the better: reducing the cycle of hopelessness, risky behavior, and homelessness. A recognised provider of housing services for communities in Sheffield and surrounding areas. Where possible, they use a new homes building matrix that takes into account the needs of local communities.

Cherrytree supports young people (aged 16 – 21) who are homeless and in need of support. Provides accommodation, and personalised support to help young people develop the life skills necessary for them to gain confidence, and to re-establish their lives.

• Supported Accommodation Projects, two supported accommodation sites across Sheffield. A twenty-bed hostel in Totley on the edge of the Peak District, and an eight bedroomed house near the City Centre. 1:1 personalised support provided to develop independent living skills and tackle underlying causes of homelessness. Stay up to a year before being offered access to the home and health service, when they move on to their own tenancy. Informed by Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE).
• Counselling and Mediation, provides a confidential and safe space for young people to talk about anything troubling them. Family mediation also offered.
• Homes and Health Service, help young people to move into, and maintain their own tenancies, living independently. Provide practical help but also provide more personal support to suit each individuals needs. Support them to access health services and general wellbeing. Help them to know their local area and find support networks. Support them with developing household skills, budgeting etc.

Fresh Start Community Housing helps vulnerable people gain access to appropriate housing and necessary support. Providing services that assist people with a wide range of issues, including homelessness, ex offenders, single mothers and alcohol and substance misuse. There are three categories of clients that they assist:

Sober Home: Fresh Start Sober Homes (FSSH) is a housing service in Sheffield for people in recovery from substance abuse. The service offers low – medium support during office hours for as long as it take to get them back on there feet and also help with house and support for clients that have a minimum of 12 weeks total abstinence in one of their Sober Houses.

Ex-Offenders: At Fresh Start Housing Service (FSHS), we know that having stable accommodation helps people break the cycle of re-offending. FSHS has substantial experience of providing housing to offenders, including those released from prison, individuals serving community sentences, and those at risk of offending. Working closely with private landlords, housing departments and Registered Social Landlords.

Our support team have a wealth of experience of working with vulnerable adults and supporting homeless people with complex support needs. By working with you, and in partnership with local agencies, you’ll get the support you need to boost your confidence and move towards living an independent life in your own home.

You’ll get 24-hour structured, support plan which is tailored to your needs. This will include building practical and social skills to encourage independence within our relaxed and friendly environment.

SWA has been providing emergency accommodation for women and children who have suffered and survived domestic and sexual abuse and violence for over 45 years. Accommodating women aged 16+ and their children (of any age or gender) if they depend on their Mum for their personal well-being and can accommodate larger families. Services include:

• Refuge accommodation, 36 furnished self-contained apartments for both women and children. Communal lounges and gardens as well as play equipment for children. One complex can house pets.
• Activities in and around the refuge.
• Children and Young Persons Practitioners provide a wide variety of therapeutic play sessions for children of all ages at different times of day. This is on a one-one basis or in small groups. They can help:
  • Establish new routines for children
  • Access support around children’s development and behaviour through referrals
  • Find a new school for the children
  • Establish safe contact arrangements, support with court proceedings and advocate for you in safeguarding meetings.
• Dedicated keyworker who will work with the woman at their own pace to begin to work through their experiences and plan the support you would like to help you and your children move forward. Support provided:
  • Accessing welfare benefits/independent finances
  • Registering with new GP and Dental surgeries
  • Support to get to know local area
  • Accessing support physical and mental health needs
  • Being an advocate for you with other agencies
  • Supporting you to access housing
  • Preparing to move on
  • Accessing legal support
  • Support with immigration status issues
  • Other support needs identified.

Shiloh provides comprehensive support for homeless or at-risk adults in Rotherham. Key services include:

Cathedral Archer Project, mission to help homeless people achieve a better life by supporting them to:

• Develop their independence
• Improve their ability to tackle setbacks
• Learn to identify and change negative behaviour
• Build on their wellbeing
  • Pathway is split into three broad stages that allow for people to set their own individual goal and move on:
  • Engagement – The service is aimed at people whose lives are marked by a lack of routine and planning, and repeated crisis. Their lives are reactive to the things than do rather than purposeful, motivated and determined.
    • Small interventions make a big difference e.g. sitting and having conversations whilst eating or having coffee, colouring-in, playing pool or table tennis. By doing these things trust grows which helps to build small routines and relationships to develop. Outreach, meeting people on the street who may be reluctant to come to the centre.
  • Stabilisation – This service is aimed at those whose lives have some routine, planning, and organisation e.g. someone who comes to the centre every day, at the same time, for the same service.
    • The Partnership Programme gives people the opportunity to volunteer in the centre doing all sorts of work with different levels of responsibility. E.g. tidying rooms after activities and at the end of the day, joining the kitchen team, manage lounge or stores of donated food and clothes.
  • Transition – This service focusses on little things that make a big difference. E.g. support to focus on things. Showcases personal ability to plan and achieve and helps people believe in themselves.

Thrive, accommodation and support for vulnerable and homeless individuals, including those with complex needs. Aim to support individuals towards independent living and addressing issues such as benefits and tenancy support, budgeting, managing bills, debt advice/management as well as signposting to other specific charities & organisations across the region.

• Clients become ‘members’ of THRIVE for life and in cases of chronic and terminal conditions, people will be supported to access palliative care and end-of-life care.
• Package includes a budget for activities, and to fund interests and hobbies that clients might be encouraged to take up or resume.
• A caseworker that has five clients, offering up to eight hours of support and contact per person each week.

They provide different ways to help, including registering to welcome refugees through the Homes for Ukraine scheme, support and advice to those who have come to Sheffield as they have been displaced by the war in Ukraine. They support guests staying with hosts to move in to independent accommodation, and can assist with moves to a rematch host if possible.

They offer assistance with signing up for Property Shop, and signposting for a variety of housing related issues.

They hold a Ukraine Housing Advice drop-in on Tuesdays, from 10am - 12noon at First Point, 1 Union St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2SH.
