A welcoming, friendly, inclusive and accessible group. Our ethos is to make everyone feel welcome, help them connect and feel part of a community regardless of their background. Please note that although we rent the church hall as our club venue, b:friend is a secular charity and we are not affiliated with any faith or religion. We welcome club attendees and volunteers from people of all faith and backgrounds. A warm space - we like to keep the hall toasty during the cold months. Refreshments (hot drinks, cordial, biscuits, crisps) and occasionally taste of a different country during our armchair travel sessions. Resources for our sessions (e.g. art and craft resources, quiz books, etc.) Accessible entrance and toilets.
About the charity: B:friend is a charity combatting loneliness & social isolation experienced by older neighbours (people aged 65 and over) in South Yorkshire and NE Derbyshire through 1:1 community befriending and Social Clubs. Our Gleadless Social Club, currently our only club in Sheffield, launched in 2022. The weekly b:friend Social Club aims to boost the wellbeing and meaningful community connections for older neighbours in the area. We serve refreshments and have a different stimulating and fun activity every week based on the Five Ways to Wellbeing. Our past sessions included making no-bake treats, age-friendly boxing, armchair travels, drumming, seated dancing, murder mystery games, crafts, quizzes, and much more. No boring bingo - we know we can offer much more to our older neighbours.
